Cape rowing club sponsors challenge

Cape Coral Rowing Club's inaugural "Realmark Corporate Rowing Challenge" will be held on Cape Harbour's Spreader Waterway, on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1 to 5 p.m., as part of the community's Water and Wheels event.

This inaugural fundraising event, for the newly-formed rowing club, was inspired by a trip the founders made to Oxford, England. Alis Jordan and John Bell rowed at the Oxford rowing club and learned about their yearly Corporate Challenge Fundraiser. Community organizations and corporations make a donation to participate and in return, the club trains up to 10 employees or members in rowing. After a six week training, the opponents all race against each other in a publicized regatta.

This fundraising event will support the Cape Coral Rowing Club's commitment to their Scholastic Youth Program and Masters (Adults 27-107) Rowing Programs. Cape Coral Rowing Club's inaugural sponsorship teams are: Avalon Engineering, Dyer, Riddle, Mills & Precourt, CDM Consulting Engineering, Cape Coral Rotary Club-Downtown, and Cape Coral Rotary Club-North. Members of these companies and organizations have been training with the rowing club members and prepared to compete in the upcoming event.

The course will be marked at 500 meters and will be easily seen from the walkways surrounding the lock and marina area. Tents will be set up and prizes will be given to the top 3 teams. The public is invited to attend and cheer on these daring men and women as they race to win the gold.
