Hip Joint Serves Up Food and Fun

www.gulfcoasttimes.net, April 2008

The sun is setting on yet another week at the office and some time to unwind, have a few cocktails and just enjoy the sunset is much needed. Therefore, another evening at Cape Harbour’s comfy, chic restaurant The Joint is a necessity.

Nestled in the Mediterranean style development, The Joint is a project fashioned by the Rumrunners team that opened nearly two years ago. The location lends itself to breathtaking views since the restaurant is right on the marina. Hence, one can imagine the phenomenal waterside dining.

The vibe is sophisticated meets youthful. Attentive servers bustle through the dimly lit, dining area. And since the idea behind the restaurant is casual, the music is hip and so is the décor.

The walls are as fun-filled as the atmosphere. Vivid and spicy oranges, yellows and reds caress the walls and funky surfer themed adornments fill the room. The kitchen is framed by a bar where 20, 30, 40 and even 50-something’s sit on high-top stools and enjoy great company, creative drinks and good conversation.

Every good night begins with a drink and at The Joint the options are creative and endless. While the restaurants wine list is quite tempting, we always opt for that tropical escape in order to blend with the beachy ambiance.

Staple treasures on their drink menu include the Hawaii 5-0 and the Passion Fruit Mojito.

What says tropics more than Hawaii and Mojito’s?

The first is a blend of vodka, rum, gin, tequila, sweet & sour mix, and Blue Curacao. Mixed together in a tall glass of ice, the liquors combine for the ultimate fresh, savory and tangy flavor of the islands.

The Passion Fruit Mojito brings together Parrot Bay Passion Fruit Rum, sweet & sour mix, soda water, lime and fresh mint leaves. This sweet and fruity sensation is delicious and keeps patrons always wanting more.

Even though dinner is not always the reason for our visit, not mentioning their fresh and dynamic fare would be a sin. The menu is a conglomeration of goodies, to say the least. Nosh is a specialty The Joint has executed tastefully. The concept is that of many small portioned dishes friends can share.

Some of the standouts include the Black & Blue Bread, the Uptown Mac & Cheese, the Cheese Board, Brick-Oven Pizza and the Grilled Kobe Beef Slidders. Extraordinary entrees and specials are also available including specialties like the Steak au Poivre and the Cod Special.

Hands down, The Joint definitely knows how to mix food, fun and friends. And you can take that from us, we frequent this spot regularly. Every chance the GCT gang gets, we introduce new friends to this hip joint in the Cape. And let’s not forget the Tuesday nights we drink, dine and enjoy the live music with many more.

So, slap on some Bermuda shorts and flip-flop’s and bask in the tropic bliss The Joint is enveloped in ’cause we know we’re counting down to our next Joint venture!
