The Joint at Cape Harbour will kick-off the weekend by hosting the Cobalt Blues Band form 6 to 10 p.m. July 3.
"We had a phenomenal turnout last year and we're planning even more good old-fashioned fun and entertainment this year," said Cape Harbour Events Coordinator Glenda Swager. "We're really focusing on children's activities and tributes for our troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Some of the activities include an arts/crafts area where children can create and color thank you cards for soldiers, free hair braiding and face painting by High Maintenance Salon, martial arts demonstrations by Jeff Santella's Street Defense, free kids tattoos, an apple pie contest, mini-race cars on display and a free kids identification program courtesy of the Masonic Lodge.
There will also be a banner for well-wishers to sign that will be sent to troops and donation boxes for monetary contributions to the "Adopt a Troop" program, which sends some of the comforts of home. Pignoli will sell hotdogs and hamburgers while Rumrunners, The Joint and Run Agrounds will also welcome guests and Longboards will have a special 4th of July cocktail.
"All day long there will be entertainment at Expo Island in center court," Swager said. "The merchants are working hard and really getting into the spirit by offering other fun trinkets for the kids in their shops, so it's shaping up to be a great event for the Fourth.
"Admission and parking are free as well as visitor docks in The Marina. For more information on the Great American Picnic, visit www.capeharbour.com or call 945-6116. |
