Cape Harbour’s Promenade exudes a cultured, yet kicked back attitude

Plenty of boat owners and adventuresome drivers have happily made their way to Rumrunners ever since the popular waterfront restaurant opened at Cape Harbour nearly four years ago. Now that the Promenade has sprung to life next door, this amazing corner of southwest Cape Coral is even more of an entertainment and shopping destination. On Tuesday nights, live music is staged in the middle of the roundabout, adding a piazza feel to the setting.

Adjacent is The Joint, a surf-themed eatery with tempting tapas (including mini Kobe burgers) and Longboards, where patrons enjoy their favorite cocktail outdoors. Can’t find the friends you said you’d meet? They might well be ordering a latte or a gelato at Run Agrounds. All three of these fancifully-designed dining options were conceptualized by Steven Turner, who co-owns the Promenade’s Sim Gallery with wife Mollie. (His Bradford & Co. Design Group offices are upstairs.)

Sim offers a thoughtful variety of fine art, including jewelry designs by Mark Loren. But it’s hardly staid; stop in for a peek at the gallery’s graffiti wall. Across the way from Sim Gallery on the Promenade, Rising Stars Art Studio carries whimsical and functional art in several mediums, and offers classes in fused glass, mosaics, photography, flower arranging, painting, stained glass and even shell art. Looking for Tommy Bahama or Tory Richards apparel?

You’ll find it at the Promenade, in pint-sized shops packed with fun and pretty things including candles, CZ and crystal jewelry, nautical-themed décor and gifts, even chocolate alligators and 32 flavors of Jelly Belly. Our favorite find was in a purse boutique called Carried Away, which was showcasing the “lifepod,” a combination minicooler and iPod dock and speaker system for $55.

As of this writing, plans are under way for a sushi bar along the Promenade, and gourmet takeout is already a reality: Pignoli, “An Epicurean Marketplace” is amassing staunch foodies with treats like curried cauliflower, made-to-order panini and salads, pineapple jalapeno salsa and fine wines. Take a fresh look: This is not your grandmother’s Cape Coral.
