| On January 9, the City of Cape Coral entered into a contract with PCL Civil Constructors to complete the construction drawings and build the Chiquita Parallel Boat Lock. They are performing pre-construction tasks and will be finalizing design over the next several months in order to complete the construction plans.
The existing lock will remain in operation during construction of the new lock, and the goal is to minimize any inconvenience to boaters.
The Department of Environmental Protection has completed their review of the Environmental Resource Permit and has forwarded their approval to the Army Corps of Engineers. The permit for the new Chiquita Parallel Boat Lock Project was approved by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers on March 9. The final design of the construction plans is underway by PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. Construction is scheduled to start in May or June.
